Statement of Technique
Often wheel thrown & relief carved.
Fired in an electric kiln or raku fired.
Currently experimenting with commercial glazes, as well as learning to create my own glazes from scratch.
My dream is to one day have access to my own kiln :)
Every piece is unique, I work with each “lump” of clay to give form to what it wants to be. Careful trimming and experimentative glazing brings each piece to life.
My work is inspired by traditional Japanese shapes, ancient Chinese floral motifs, & the beautiful elements of Mother Earth along the Pacific Northwest where I gratefully call “home”.
To supplement my curiosities surrounding ceramics, I have also learned traditional kintsugi from a master kintsugi artist to re-connect with my heritage.
My favourite clay bodies are Oregon Red, Porcelain, & Raku. Occasionally using Speckled Buff and continuing to play with different types of clay :)
